I feel like everyone had found their "thing" during the 2020 quarantine° my "thing" is making margaritas, specifically spicy ones. I was infusing my own tequila with jalapenos for either watermelon or pineapple spicy margs. I became quite the mixologist and muddler! 

A few weeks ago I was at Whiskey Joe's beach bar and I ran into a tequila rep who offered me a shot. Umm YES please. It was a spicy tequila and IT WAS AMAZING. I ended up getting two bottles and created a recipe to share with y'all. I never ever use margarita mix, that will tear your stomach UP. There is way too much sugar in those, trust.

Fresh Spicy Watermelon Margarita with Ghost Tequila

What you need:

1 bottle Ghost Tequila
Double Shot Glass
Shaker
Muddler
Watermelon
Simply Watermelon Juice
Agave
Key West Lime juice
Cayenne Pepper
Chili Powder
Limes
Ice

How to create the perfect marg!

Step 1:

Add a few shakes of cayenne and chili powder on a plate
Coat the rim in lime and spin on the plate coating the glass rim

 

Step 2:

Pour in 1 double shot of Ghost tequila into the shaker
Muddle in 1-2 cubes of watermelon with the tequila
Add in a double shot of watermelon juice
Add in a double shot of of Key West lime juice

Add 1 TBS agave
Add Ice


S H A K E 
 

Step 3: 

Open the whole shaker and pour all contents into rimmed glass
Add a chunk of watermelon and piece of lime for garnish

Lately, my recipe is as follows:

310 Nutrition Toasted Coconut
1 Banana
1/2 Cup of Blueberries
1 Cup Unsweetended Almond Milk
1 scoop of Chia Seeds 
Ice
Blend

I love 310 because it has ZERO sugar added but still tastes like ice cream! I do not like super sweet drinks so this has been the best protein for me. 

I also pack a travel packet of 310 Protein for the following day to mix with water.

This last week I traveled to Fort Lauderdale for two days. I brought 4oz of strawberries, 4oz of Quaker rice crisps- lime flavor OMG so good, 2oz of coconut cheerios, a greek yogurt and carrot sticks.... I also love celery!! YUM!

It is important when being on the road to still get your appropriate macros in your body. I always plan. So I knew Thursday night I would be drinking and eating poorly so I limited my carb intake. I skipped lunch so I could have more at dinner. 

Friday I had my shake, then I had a lunch at my meeting, chicken quesadillas. I did not eat any snacks on the road and saved up for sushi dinner and some wine. It is not about what you eat it is about how much. My macros:

5'2
130 LBS
90 Carbs
120 Proten
50 Fat

I gain weight with fat so I need to keep that AT 50 or below. Also, if you have a bad day just cut back on these numbers the next day.

Last year I made the decision to get healthy again and work with my friend and trainer Kerven Germain. Kerven worked out with me twice a week and I worked out on my own the other days. Unfortunately, sometimes our busy schedules get in the way and leave us with minimal work out time. This was me over the holiday; stress, lack of time and travel left me with less than two days to work out, at least less than two days to feel motivated to. But one thing I did stay consistent with was my nutrition.

I have tried it all, Whole 30, cutting carbs, keto etc. None of it worked for me. I gained weight on keto, twice! It's just not realistic for me. The best lifestyle meal plan that works for me has always been counting macros. What is a macro? Basically the breakdown of carbs, fats and protein that goes into a calorie. I use My Fitness Pal to track it. What I didn't know before working out with Kerven was there are better times of the day to eat certain macros. And intermittent fasting does work. So I wanted to give you a quick look into how I kept up with my weight loss without working out 5 days a week.

 

My macros are as follows:

Carb 90g
Fat 50g
Protein 120g

 

Yes you get 90g of carbs everyday on this plan! Ok so in the morning I either don't eat and fast until lunchtime or have a shake. 
 


 


My shakes consist of:

1 scoop chocolate protein
(I use Designer Whey or

1 scoop Chia Seeds

1 TSP Almond Butter 
(I use Barney or Trader Joes)
1 Banana
1 cup no sugar Almond Milk

Lunches I vary, I will mostly do salads with almonds, chicken, low fat cheese and ranch or Italian dressing. I really like Alessi soups too. Half of the bean soup pack is only 15 carbs! I pretty much stay away from breads at lunch time and try not to do carbs because they will make you tired in the afternoon. I keep my carbs very low at lunch.

 

Snacks I will do stick of low fat cheese, or Triple Zero yogurt. I also am obsessed with celery and low sugar peanut butter or almond butter.

 

Dinner varies too but I do consume most of my carbs at dinner. Kerven said to do this because it helps you sleep. If I feel like I had a lot of food throughout the day I will just do a plain shake and salad. But normally I do grilled chicken, salmon or turkey. 

Here are some of my favorite dinners!

 

Mexican Bowl:
chicken or ground turkey
brown rice
avocado
salsa
Mexican chees
dollop of non-fat plain Greek yogurt

Harvest Bowl:
quinoa OR sweet potatoes
chicken OR turkey
dried cranberries
chopped up celery
avocado
drizzle of Balsamic reduction

 

Chicken Parm:
Grilled chicken
1 can of low sodium chopped tomatoes
¼ cup non-fat mozz cheese
1 spaghetti squash
Crushed red pepper

 

One of the most difficult things for me is that I have a HUGE sweet tooth. I cut back a ton actually but I still have some desserts that are healthier to indulge in.

No Crust Apple Pie:
1 Apple
Brown Sugar
Cinnamon
Low Fat Cool Whip
Heat in microwave for 1 min

 

PB Chocolate Banana:
(Only if I didn't have a banana in my shake that day)
1 banana 
1 TBP PB
5-10 Choc chips
put on baking pan, heat for 10 min on 350
IT MUST BE IN THE OVEN! Not microwave!

I also have used tea a lot to help reduce cravings. When I am hungry and I know I can't eat I will have a cup of tea (or coffee) to stop the craving. My other problem is wine! Honestly, I try to stick to just drinking on weekends and did switch to straight liquor for a little while but I love wine, so I try to be smart about it. If I drank a lot or know I am going to I will cut back on my carbs that day or the day after.

 

So if you drank and you're over your carbs that day by 30g then the next day cut your carbs by 50g so it balances out. Maybe try to go for a run or a walk too! We should really all try to give our bodies some form of exercise daily. I love cardio but again during my busy times at work it's hard to stay motivated when it's dark and cold out when I get home.

Last year I fell into a love affair with cucumber vodka. However, I really only drink it in the summertime. It is so refreshing!! So I played around a little bit with it and crafted my favorite summer cocktail.




Last year I fell into a love affair with cucumber vodka. However, I really only drink it in the summertime. It is so refreshing!! So I played around a little bit with it and crafted my favorite summer cocktail.

At first, I used club soda and I liked it, but sometimes too many bubbles makes me feel bloated & full. So, then I mixed it with flat water and it was perfect. But, then I felt like it needed a little za za zoo so I popped in a little Key West lime juice. Mmm it was SO good, but I still felt like it needed more so finally I came up with two options.


Effin Cucumber Vodka, Key West lime juice & fresh basil with water & ice- SHAKE & Enjoy

It is low calorie, low carb & the mixture with flat water helps prevent hangovers. I rarely get them, & definitely don't with this drink. The last time I was hungover was in Europe from marathon drinking Heineken & not including water in the 12 hour stretch.

Here is the recipe:

1 shot Effin Cucumber Vodka
½ shot Key West lime juice
1 slice of lime
2 leaves of basil OR mint
1 ½ cups of flat water
½ cup of ice

And luckily for you I am sharing my recipe for you to shock and awe your fam with the best Christmasy- most festive cocktail ever!

What you need:
Sangria Pitcher or Jar
4 bottles of red wine (I prefer Cab)
A bag of apples
4 large oranges
A bag of lemons
A bag of limes
Cinnamon
Cinnamon Sticks
Orange or berry flavored seltzer (1 liter) OR White Claw if you want a little more booze

I wish I has an exact recipe but I don't. I just make it until it tastes good. This is why I am a better cook than baker! Basically you pour in the 4 bottles, add the seltzer and as much fruit as you want. Throw in a few cinnamon sticks and as much cinnamon as you like. Let it sit and chill overnight, this part is important. Do not put ice in it, put ice in the cups and pour!

So over the summer one of my go-to recipes was homemade guacamole & baked corn chips. I like making my own chips because it's way healthier & I love the consistency. So I decided to let everyone in on my secrets!

 

So over the summer one of my go-to recipes was homemade guacamole & baked corn chips. I like making my own chips because it's way healthier & I love the consistency. So I decided to let everyone in on my secrets!

Ingredients
(makes enough for 3-4 people)

2 ripe avocados
Half of a tomato (I like firmer tomatoes for this)
A ton of cilantro
Half of a lime
Chopped garlic
Avocado Oil
Salt
Pepper
Onion Powder
Corn tortillas

Directions:

The best way to cut an avocado is right down the middle, split it and take out the pit. Peel the skin back & throw it in a bowl. Rinse tomato & your cilantro. Chop both up finely. Throw that into the bowl. I do not measure my dry ingredients I do it to taste. Start with a little & add more as you go. I like a lot of cilantro & a lot of lime. I do not like real onion because it's too much so that is why I use the powder. Since I sadly do not have a guac bowl I use a fork & mash to consistency you like. I like mine chunky.

 

For the chips, take a pan and grease it with avocado oil and so the same with your tortillas. I make four at a time. Lay them on the pan & sprinkle with paprika. Pre-heat the oven to 475 and bake for 8 min. Let them cool & then use a pizza cutter to cut.
